Before throwing something out, consider if it's in good enough condition to be donated. Many local charitable organizations accept donations of specific items, but check with them beforehand to verify their needs and if they are currently accepting donations. Daycare centers, school/community programs, shelters, and other human services programs are some outlets for donations of items like clothes, toys, and housewares; don't forget about animal and pet rescue organizations, too! Thrift stores, consignment shops, and online marketplaces are a great option as well, or gather your items and have a yard sale! If you're unsure about charitable donation or resale, consider freecycling - offering items for free through local freecycling groups or online platforms.

The Recycling Center at the Northern Landfill offers an area for building materials, books, and clothing in reusable condition.

For food items, check with your local faith center or food pantry before throwing them out. Little Free Pantries (listed below) are a great drop-off option to help those experiencing food insecurity. Just leave unexpired, unopened items in the bin at your convenience. Don't forget to compost your acceptable food scraps!
