County Recognizes April 21st – 25th as Work Zone Awareness Week “Respect the Zone so we All Get Home”
Westminster, MD, Tuesday, April 15, 2025 – Carroll County Government will recognize April 21-25, 2025, as National Work Zone Awareness Week. The county scheduled a variety of activities for the week-long commemoration including a work zone safety training day, kickoff event, go orange day, social media storm, and a moment of silence.
National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is an annual spring campaign held at the start of construction season to encourage safe driving through highway work zones. This year, the North Carolina Department of Transportation is hosting the 2025 NWZAW with the theme, "Respect the Zone so We All Get Home.”
The Carroll County Board of Commissioners will read a proclamation and kick off Work Zone Awareness Week on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 9:00 am at the Carroll County Government Office Building on Center St. The county will also participate in a variety of events throughout the week including a “Slow Down/ Move Over” Education/Enforcement detail organized by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll County Department of Public Works, Westminster City Police, Maryland State Police, and Maryland State Highway Administration – conducted on MD Rte. 140 in the Westminster area.
Carroll County recognizes the contributions of those who work in roadway construction and maintenance, as well as traffic engineers, traffic operations personnel, law enforcement, emergency personnel, and others whose work environments include the open road. The county also honors those who have been injured or lost in the line of duty and asks motorists to keep these workers in mind as they travel. Crashes can be prevented by ignoring distractions, staying alert, using extra caution, reducing speed, obeying signage and flaggers, and giving a construction area your undivided attention when approaching, entering, and exiting a work zone.
