Westminster, MD, Monday, October 4, 2021 – Beginning October 14th, the Carroll County Bureau of Aging & Disabilities (BOAD) will offer free virtual workshops for Living Healthy, Living Well with Diabetes.

Diabetes Self-Management is a series of workshops for adults of all ages who have been diagnosed with diabetes, pre-diabetes, or who live with someone that does. Originally developed at Stanford University, the Living Healthy, Living Well workshops are part of an evidence-based self-management program that has proven effective in helping attendees manage diabetes. The program has proven health benefits and complements the diabetic medical management services people receive from providers. Workshops consist of six sessions, held on Thursdays beginning October 14, 2021 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Living Healthy, Living Well workshops offer a hands-on opportunity to enhance skills in maintaining active and fulfilling lifestyles by improving problem-solving and decision making, as well as addressing the challenges of living with diabetes. Workshop topics include improving food choices, increasing physical activity, and practicing coping skills to maintain nutrition and a healthy weight. Participants create weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems in creating and implementing their personal self-management program.

BOAD is pleased to begin offering these programs virtually, at no cost to the public. If the lack of technology prevents interested participants from participating in online BOAD and senior center programs, the county can help.
