Westminster, MD, Tuesday, April 27, 2021 – Today, during Open Session, the Department of Management and Budget met with the Board of County Commissioners to release the FY22 Proposed Budget and the FY 22-27 Operating and Community Investment Plans to the public. Department Director Ted Zaleski delivered a detailed presentation highlighting the significant commissioner actions and changes to the budget. The commissioners emphasized that Carroll County’s property tax rate did not increase to balance the proposed budget. The board also discussed the exceptional challenges of COVID-19 during the last 14 months and their satisfaction with delivering a proposed budget in their usual transparent manner.  Budget information is available on the county’s budget website with the FY22 Proposed Budget and FY22-27 Recommended Budget Plans available in the next day or two.

Usually, Mr. Zaleski holds a series of community meetings at the library branches to review and explain the Proposed Budget.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and continued safety precautions, these meetings will not be held. As an alternative, the county encourages all interested residents to watch the presentations online, view the budget and then submit any questions or concerns directly to Director Zaleski at tzaleski@carrollcountymd.gov.

A Budget Public Hearing is scheduled to be held virtually on Tuesday, May 11th at 7:00 pm. More information on viewing and participating in the public hearing will be provided closer to the date.

Additional Budget Work Sessions may be held by the commissioners to make any modifications to the proposed budget based on the information received during the Budget Public Hearing.  These work sessions are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, May 18th and Thursday, May 20th.

The FY22 budget adoption is planned for Tuesday, May 25th at 1:00 pm.

All sessions will be held virtually, televised on Channel 24 and streamed live on the county website.  Meeting dates and times are subject to change, so please check the county website or call 410-386-2400 to confirm.
