County Commissioners Sign Resolutions Regarding the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project
Westminster, MD, Tuesday, November 26, 2024 – The Board of Carroll Commissioners (board) unanimously passed two resolutions on Thursday, November 21st reinforcing their position on the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project.
The first resolution calls to implement policy coordination with federal agencies. Invoking coordination is a process provided under federal law where local jurisdictions can lean on federal agencies to discuss concerns and negative impacts a federal project or policy may have on the local area and work with the jurisdiction to resolve those issues.
The resolution, proposed by Commissioner Vigliotti, District 1, is a significant step in denouncing the Maryland Piedmont Reliability project and initiating coordination with the federal government. Commissioner Vigliotti shared, “it is another step we can take in the protections of our citizens and our stand against the MPRP.” A draft of the resolution can be read here in its entirety.
The second resolution, introduced by Commissioner Gordon, district 3, formalizes the board's opposition to the MPRP as well as the use of eminent domain. Commissioner Gordon wanted an official stance recorded for the citizens of the county. He read the draft resolution during open session and it passed after a brief discussion between the board.
Both resolutions will be sent to Carroll County’s state and federal delegations, Governor Moore, the Public Service Commission, PSEG, and PJM. In addition, the policy coordination resolution will be sent to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
