Westminster, MD, Wednesday, September 11, 2024 – The Carroll County Board of Commissioners and the Carroll County Department of Planning and Land Management are excited to announce Carroll County’s third annual Environmental Symposium.  The event will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, beginning at 9:00 AM and running through noon at the Carroll County Agriculture Center, Alesia/Medford Buildings, 706 Agricultural Center Drive in Westminster.

The event will showcase Carroll County community groups focused on environmental stewardship.  Attendees will learn more about how to promote and implement practices to sustain the county’s natural resources. Demonstrations will be conducted by the University of Maryland Extension Bay-Wise Committee, Girl Scout Troop 1290, and Carroll County Floodplain Management staff in coordination with the Army Corps. This event is free and open to the public.

Carroll County Public Library’s, Storytime Express, will be onsite along with the University of Maryland Insect Zoo. Free daffodil bulbs will be given to the first 200 attendees.  Several trees, a rain barrel, a compost bin, and a countertop compost bin will be given away during the event. 

The County is holding an online compost bin and rain barrel sale through October 20 at www.enviroworld.us/carrollcountymd.  Orders must be picked up at the Symposium. The Master Gardeners will be providing a demonstration on rain barrel setup at 10:00 AM.

The symposium will also feature a youth recycled art contest for high school students with attendees voting for their favorite artwork.
