Westminster, MD, Thursday, March 16, 2023 – This month marks another historic milestone for the new Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS as the department recently oriented 16 new employees. On Thursday, March 2, 2023, four newly hired shift commander lieutenants and 12 station lieutenants had their first day on the job as Carroll County employees.

A lengthy and extensive hiring process involved many elements, including validating credentials, written exam, physical ability test, formal interview, position specific testing, background investigation, occupational physical including drug testing, and psychological testing.

The combined credentials of the hired lieutenants include over 375 years of experience with the range of 7.5 to 33 years and an average of 23 years.  Previous positions for the group include fire chiefs, assistant chiefs, captains and lieutenants in both volunteer and paid departments.

“This first class of lieutenants is incredible and brings a wealth of experience, qualifications, knowledge and training to our new combined department,” said Carroll County Chief Michael Robinson. “I could not ask for a more outstanding team and appreciate that their extensive leadership experience and expertise gives Carroll County a tremendous start to our new system.”

The Department of Fire and EMS is currently hiring Paramedics, Firefighter/Paramedics, and Fire Apparatus Driver Operator (FADO). Please see the department’s website at https://www.carrollcountymd.gov/government/directory/fire-and-emergency-services/ for more information.
