Westminster, MD, Thursday, April 22, 2021 - On March 12, 2020, Carroll County Senior & Community Centers were ordered to close by order of Governor Larry Hogan, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On April 1, 2021, the Governor announced that senior centers throughout the State of Maryland are permitted to safely reopen by the end of April, with public health protocols in place.

The Carroll County Bureau of Aging & Disabilities will celebrate the reopening of the Senior & Community Centers with a special event at Westminster Senior & Community Center (125 Stoner Ave. in Westminster) on Friday, April 30, 2021.  Featuring a theme of “Senior Center Strong,” the event will begin at 9:45 am and will conclude by 1:00 pm.  The celebration will launch with a Walk Carroll event, followed by indoor and outdoor exercise sessions, a Grab and Go lunch catered by Mollies Café of Westminster and live music presented by Doug Phoebus.  Due to the county’s commitment to maintain the safety of senior center members and staff, pre-registration will be required for all activities, with capacity limits designated.  Members from all five of the Senior & Community Centers are welcome to register. These measures will ensure social distancing and CDC COVID-19 safety guidelines can be maintained.  Interested seniors please sign up for the walking and exercise sessions here: https://ccrec.recdesk.com/Community/Program?category=10. If you would like to become a member, please call 410-386-3800.

Individuals who do not have access to the internet may register by calling the Westminster Senior & Community Center at 410-386-3850.  If you would like to participate in the Grab and Go event, please contact any of the five senior centers by April 27th.

All Senior & Community Centers will reopen on a modified schedule beginning the week of May 3, 2021.  Wellness checks, masks and social distancing will be required. Senior center schedules and safety guidelines will be posted on the Bureau of Aging & Disabilities website www.carrollcountymd.gov/aging-and-disabilities.  Copies of the guidelines and schedules will be available at each center.   Beginning on April 27th individuals may contact senior centers to obtain activity schedules and register for activities.  Grab and go lunches will continue to be offered; please contact one of the Senior & Community Centers for the schedule.

Recreation and Parks’ sponsored activities will begin to be phased in at the South Carroll Senior & Community Center, on weekends only, starting by mid-May. For more information or inquiries regarding Recreation and Parks’ sponsored activities, please call 410-386-2103.
